What we collect
- Email address and city when you subscribe, claim a deal or ask for a sign-in link.
- Name and phone number when you choose to give them on our contact or get-listed forms.
- Business information from owners, such as business name, category, website, social links, offers and notes.
- Photos and videos you upload, along with the permission you give us to use them.
- Deal claims and redemptions, including the code issued, the business and when it was claimed or redeemed.
- SMS consent records: whether you agreed to texts, when, the exact consent wording you saw and the page you were on.
- Usage and analytics. We use Fathom Analytics, a privacy-focused tool that does not use cookies to track you across sites. We also record our own events on our site, such as page and profile views, searches, filters, deal views and claims, and clicks to a business's website, phone or directions. These events are tied to a random ID stored in your browser and, if you subscribe or claim a deal, to your subscriber record. We use this to show local businesses how many leads we send them.
- Email engagement such as opens and link clicks in our newsletter, reported by our email provider.
- Technical data such as browser type and device, which our hosting provider handles to deliver and secure the site.
How we use it
- To send the newsletter you asked for and the deal codes you claim.
- To list businesses in the directory and run deals with them.
- To reply to messages and follow up with business owners, including by phone, email and, only if you agreed, text message.
- To measure and report results (for example, views, clicks and leads) to the businesses we work with, usually as totals.
- To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and improve what we publish.
Text messages (SMS)
We only send marketing or informational texts to people who opted in. You can reply STOP at any time to opt out, or HELP for help. Details are in our SMS Terms.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent will not be shared with, sold to or rented to any third party. This excludes service providers that help us deliver messages (such as our phone and CRM provider), who may use it only to provide that service to us.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
- With service providers who run parts of the Scoop for us, under their own privacy and security terms: beehiiv (newsletter email), Supabase (database and file storage), Cloudflare (hosting and security), Close (CRM, calling and texting with business owners), Fathom Analytics (site analytics) and Stripe (payments, if you buy advertising from us).
- With a business, when you ask us to. For example, when you claim a deal, the business sees your deal code and may see the email it was sent to so it can honor the deal. Reports to businesses about results are otherwise shared as totals.
- When required by law, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.
- If our business is sold or transferred, as part of that transaction, under this policy. SMS consent is not transferred for marketing use.
How long we keep it
We keep subscriber and business records while you are subscribed or working with us, and for a reasonable period afterward for records and legal needs. Consent records are kept as long as needed to prove consent. Uploaded photos that we reject are deleted. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link at the bottom of any email.
- Stop texts by replying STOP.
- Ask to see, correct or delete your information through our contact form (choose "Other" and tell us what you'd like). We'll confirm it's you and respond within a reasonable time.
- You can block or clear browser storage, which resets the random ID our site uses.
Security
We use access controls and encryption in transit, and keep our databases private. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Scoop is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
Where this applies
We are based in Idaho, United States, and this policy is governed by the laws of Idaho and the United States. If you use the Scoop from elsewhere, your information is processed in the United States.
Changes
We may update this policy. We'll change the effective date above and, for significant changes, tell subscribers by email.
